Meals

Our Why

When Kathy was in chemotherapy, everything changed. The treatments were relentless. Even the thought of food—let alone planning meals or cooking—felt overwhelming. Most nights looked the same. On the drive home from work, I would stop for fast food, picking up sandwiches for dinner and another for Kathy’s lunch the next day. We did this day after day—not because we wanted to, but because we were exhausted, short on time, and simply trying to survive. I began searching for help. Surely there had to be a better way. But aside from Meals on Wheels, our church group, and more fast food, I couldn’t find a sustainable solution. Nothing addressed the real need: helping families in treatment access nutritious meals in a way that fit the realities of cancer. That’s when this arm of Project Third Chair was born. If we were struggling this much to eat well during treatment, we knew others were too. Our vision is to change that—by helping patients and families find practical, nourishing meal options, teaching simple meal-prep strategies, guiding them through shopping for the week, and connecting them with supportive meal services. Our goal is to come alongside patients and help lighten any burdens with food challenges, allowing them to focus more fully on treatment, strength, and recovery.

Soup option

“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” [1] At Project Third Chair we don't want to simply provide short term solutions, but rather help patients for a lifetime. Part of that effort includes sharing what we have learned as part of our journey.

We recently discovered a local farm in Pennsylvania that offers completely organic soup mixes and very reasonably priced. Each mix makes about seven cups of soup and can be a great start to meal planning for treatment week. We at Project Third Chair have tried the spring vegetable mix made with beef broth and ground beef and we are very pleased. We will be trying the rest of the flavors very soon.

These hearty soups are distributed by the Forevergreen Family Farm and they currently have six different varieties. You can find their online store here
